Before you buy outdoor blinds

What most sellers
won’t tell you.

Don’t spend thousands on cheap, assembled, generic blinds that fail in the first tropical storm. Here are the four ways they fail on a patio — and what we engineered differently.

The problem

The blind that flaps

An ordinary outdoor roller hangs free. Wind gets behind it, lifts it, and works the fixings loose over a season or two. You have seen one on a neighbour’s porch.

What we changed

Wind-Lock™ side rail

The fabric edge carries a welded zip that runs inside a closed channel on both sides, so the sheet is held under tension top to bottom. No loose edge, nothing to catch.

The problem

A pillar in the middle of your view

Most suppliers cover a wide opening by splitting it into two blinds with a post between them. You get the shade, and you lose the reason you built the patio.

What we changed

AluRoll Duo tube, 85 mm

A dual-layer tube adds 38% more strength than the single-layer version and carries the full width in one piece — up to 6 metres, with nothing standing in the middle of it.

The problem

Rain that still gets in at the sides

A free-hanging blind leaves a gap down each edge and another at the floor. Driving rain runs straight past it, and the furniture gets wet anyway.

What we changed

Reinforced side rail base & weather strip

A thicker rail base keeps the screws from loosening under wind load, and the bottom bar lands on a weather strip that seals the gap instead of bouncing on tiles.

The problem

Plastic parts that cook and jam

A west-facing patio in Malaysia is brutal on plastic hardware. Two seasons in, the holders warp and the blind starts to bind halfway down.

What we changed

AluZip aluminium holder

An aluminium insert rather than a plastic one, so it resists the heat and keeps gliding. The parts that usually fail first are the parts we changed.

The whole argument

Six metres.
No pillar.

Ask any supplier to cover a 6-metre opening and most of them will quietly put a post in the middle of it. It is not a design decision. It is what happens when the roller tube cannot carry the span.

The AluRoll tube is 85 mm across — a large diameter reduces the pressure on the fabric as it winds, which is what stops wrinkles forming on a tall blind. The Duo version adds a second layer inside for 38% more strength, and a dual-symmetric gear that drives both ends evenly so the sheet rolls straight instead of creeping to one side.

The post in the middle
is not a feature. It is a limit.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can the Expert cover a 7 metre opening?
Not in one piece. Above 6 metres you want The New Ultra, which uses a modular headrail and runs seamlessly to 12 metres. If your opening is between 6 and 7 metres, send us the exact measurement — there is sometimes a way to work with it.
Will it stop rain completely?
It stops the great majority of it. The zip-guided rails hold the fabric under tension against the frame, so wind-driven rain does not push through the sides the way it does with an ordinary outdoor roller blind. In extreme horizontal rain you may still get some spray at the very edges. An outdoor blind is weather-resistant, not sealed — anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling.
Can I install it myself?
We do not recommend it. The side rails have to be true and plumb or the blind will not track properly, and a badly fitted outdoor blind fails in the first real storm. Installation is included.
Does it work for a car porch?
Yes, and it is one of the most common uses in Malaysia. It keeps the car cooler, keeps rain off, and adds privacy from the street.
Manual or motorised — which should I choose?
If you will open and close it daily, motorised pays for itself in convenience within weeks. If it is a seasonal or occasional space, manual is perfectly adequate and costs less.
How long does installation take?
Most single-opening installations are done in a few hours. We will confirm timing when we quote.
The next step

A patio you paid
to build should be
a room you use.

Send us the width and height of the opening. We will tell you what it needs — including when a simpler system would do the job for less.

This opens WhatsApp with your details already written out. Attach a photo of the space before you send — it is the single thing that makes a quote accurate.

What happens next

  1. We read your measurements and photo, usually the same day.
  2. You get a price and a recommendation — including if a cheaper system would do the job.
  3. If it looks right, we arrange a site measure to confirm.
  4. We manufacture, then install. Most single openings take a few hours on site.

No deposit is taken at enquiry stage, and nobody will call you repeatedly. If you go quiet we assume you are still thinking.
